Oregon want to raise taxes to more efficient cars
The state government of Oregon (USA) has proposed a bill
which will be given an economic rate for electric cars or fuel efficient. According
to officials, this tax applies to drivers who do not go through the pump or if
they do it every time because it is much in fuel taxes which raises money to
maintain the roads.
This tax will cost proportional to vehicle use. There will
be a cost per kilometer not yet been determined. Vehicles subject to this tax
burden must carry a GPS device or tachometer and record the distance traveled
by the vehicle to calculate the payment.
Jim Whitty of the Oregon Department of Transportation was
speaking:
Complaints not been long in coming. Automakers warn that
imposed this measure, make a dent in the sector because energy efficiency is
one of the important reasons when change cars. If this efficiency is punished
with extra taxes because as I say ...
In Washington
has approved similar a few days ago: $ 100 a year to all owners of an electric.
In Oregon
want to go further and charge this fee to any vehicle that consumes less than 4.3
l/100 km and not the fools day is over. I'm not kidding.
This rate can only be applied on the roads of Oregon and beyond its
borders. Another problem arises if the owners use their vehicles on private
roads and farms and racetracks. Since the government is responsible for
maintenance of these roads would not be fair to them.
As we see, this is a headache. I can think of an easy
solution but in Oregon
are willing to take to the end. For some things are yours. Let us hope that in
time they between common sense and rectify.
In the future, if all cars were electric, I understand that
the government would have to find some formula to continue to raise the money
to stop to get gasoline and as they say "is for road maintenance." But
not now. Now what to do is encourage the arrival of these cars.
In any case it seems to me only fair that drivers with less
efficient vehicles contribute more to the maintenance of roads and cars driving
exonerated respectful look to. Thus incite people to buy cars that are kinder
to the environment.
Since then, the matter has crumb. What do you think of these
policies? Do you also seem crazy to you?
